Design Situation

My name is Monica and I study in Emirates International School Meadows. I now study digital design , and as a part of our term 1 assignment, we are using DTP ( Desktop Publishing), which enables us to design CD covers, flyers, posters and brochures. Currently in school I observed that most of the students that study in our school do not participate in the after school activities or in arts. The reason I chose to advertise about this topic is that I believe that it is extremely important to participate in activities for the students I also think it is very beneficial for the students to contribute to the school’s activities. So to solve this problem, I am planning to advertise to the students about  the activities after school so that they may be encouraged and motivated .I will create the flyers by using the software DTP that will allow me to design a flyer that I will then be handing out to the students in our school. So for this Digital Design project I will be advertising about the after school activities which will hopefully solve this school problem .I will also research for Digital Design skills and different software such as: DTP, Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint . Some of the skills that I will use to create my flyer are: Elements of surprise, uniqueness and innovative ways to present my information on the flyer itself.

The nature of my problem is about the amount of students that have not been participating in the school activities and how the students are neither encouraged nor motivated to contribute to them. Since there are a lot of different websites and software I decided to use the software DTP to create flyers to advertise to the students but in addition to that I also decided to use a website called Vungle to create a visual video advertisement. The reason I chose to advertise to the school is that I think by advertising about the school it will help to improve it and will also give it a better reputation. I also chose to advertise about the after school activities because I think it is an essential part of the school that is being ignored and I think it is a major problem that needs to be solved. I have also  asked a family member and she said that it is useful because it will help boost and encourage the students to join and contribute to our school activities. I am mainly targeting this advertisement  to the students because the activities in the advertisement are directed to them. There were also some features that I was inspired to use in my flyer when I saw the Dettol flyer the features were clear florescent colors, eye catching slogans and attractive pictures.

The main reason it is for teenagers is that the product (in my case after school activities) is mainly targeted to that age group. Also, this generation’s teenagers are the next leaders, therefore: in my point of view, such enthusiasm and confidence must be grown into them at a young age, so that they are able apply these important traits later on in their lives. I decided that I will create a flyer using Microsoft word or DTP, I will also be announcing this advertisement on the newsletter because it will grab everyone’s attention. My strengths in using DTP are that I am able to use: thumbnails properly, the drawing toolbar and am able to correctly use graphics. My video editing strengths are that I am able to: add music to the footage, crop a certain part of the video and can add effects. And for the end product (which is the video ad) I will be using the app I Movie or the website Vungle because it  will enable me to add effects , crop, add footage and edit the voice. In my advertisement the main idea will be to show how amazing and extraordinary the product is and how it is an essential part of people’s life. I will also justify the importance of the product and the amount of time it would take me to master the advertisement would be around 10 days.
